What is Zakat ul-Fitr?
Zakat Ul Fitr is an obligatory form of charity that every Muslim must give before Eid al-Fitr prayer. It serves two sacred purposes:
Purification of the Fast
Purifies the fasting person from any indecent speech or actions during Ramadan.
Food for the Needy
Provides food for the poor so they can celebrate Eid with joy and dignity.
"The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) ordained Zakat al-Fitr to purify the fasting person from indecent words or actions, and to provide food for the needy."

Every Muslim
Obligatory upon every self-supporting Muslim who has sufficient food for themselves and their family.

The traditional amount is based on one Sa' of food—approximately 2.5 kg of staple food.

When to Pay Your Zakat Ul Fitr
Timing is crucial—your Zakat Ul Fitr must reach the needy BEFORE Eid prayer.
Start of Ramadan
You can begin paying Zakat ul-Fitr from the start of Ramadan according to the Hanafi school.
Final Days
Most scholars recommend paying in the final days of Ramadan for maximum impact.
Deadline
Must be paid BEFORE Eid al-Fitr prayer. After that, it's considered regular sadaqah.
